Last year saw the dawn of a rare breed of smartphones with pop up cameras that was heralded by Vivo. However, it seems Xiaomi is also pondering a move in the same direction.
Gizchina News of the week
As per a post on micro-blogging platform Weibo by Xiaomi official Wang Teng Thomas, the company is looking at public acceptance and demand of the particular motorized camera module. Once the need or demand is confirmed, Xiaomi might actually manufacture such a device. Xiaomi’s response to full-screen devices from Vivo and OPPO last year came with the Mi MIX 3 that had a slider design similar to the Honor Magic 2. However, the news of a pop-up camera smartphone is definitely new. But it seems, the company had applied for a pop-up camera patent as early as 2015.
For now, all eyes are on the Xiaomi Mi 9 launch that will take place in a couple of days regarding which a great deal is now known via official channels itself.
