As we previously reported, OPPO is going to launch a new series of mobile phones in April. Now, some details have been revealed by the vice president of OPPO himself.
Today, Shen Yiren – OPPO’s Vice President – did indeed publicly say that a new lineup of smartphones equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 flagship CPU, large 4065mAh battery capacity and support for ten times hybrid optical zoom technology will be unveiled very soon.
The smartphone in question will be OPPO’s first device that packs the new 10x hybrid optical zoom technology. He also claims it’ll be the world’s first Snapdragon 855 flagship phone that supports 10x hybrid optical zoom; a very specific title we might add.
Gizchina News of the week
As we learned a couple weeks back at MWC, OPPO’s ten-fold hybrid optical zoom technology uses a special periscope structure to achieve that level of zoom. This telephoto lens will then be paired with an ultra-wide angle lens for landscapes and whatnot; along with an ultra-sharp 48MP camera sensor (hopefully the Sony IMX586) as primary shooter. So, basically, users will be covered at all focal lengths and aided by the dual OIS (optical image stabilization) on both the primary and telephoto cameras.
Shen Yiren also emphasized that this new series of mobile phones will not have a camera bulge, while still keeping the body of the phone quite thin.
We have to say we’re really excited to see what OPPO comes out with, although we know it probably won’t be very affordable.

The smartphone killed the point and shoot cameras. Now maybe it’s the turn of compact zoom cameras.
