Kai Q8 packs a 5-inch FHD display and 2GB RAM! Looks like a HTC Butterfly

Every Chinese phone manufacturer worth it’s salt is either about to release or currently developing a quad-core smartphone of some description. Chinese phone maker Kai have the Kai Q8 which from these spy photos looks like a HTC Butterfly.

Each year one big name smartphone is collectively chosen to be THE phone to copy. A few years ago it was the iPhone, last year it was the Galaxy S3 and Note, and for 2013 it looks like it’s the HTC Butterfly’s turn.

Numerous Chinese phones are launching with the Butterfly look with specs ranging from entry-level to top of the range. The Kai Q8 fits in with the latter as this clone packs a 5-inch FHD display with full 1080 resolution, 2GB RAM and runs Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean.

From what we have learned we also know the Kai Q8 will use the popular quad-core MT6589 CPU, will come with up to 8GB of ROM and will have a 13 mega-pixel rear camera.

The phone is still undergoing testing so we will have to wait a little longer to see what the pricing will be like.

I don’t understand this trend where manufactures are adding on screen navigation buttons as well as hardware buttons, looks really odd and is a serious turn off for me.

It’s probably for testing when the ‘normal’ buttons aren’t working correctly.

I don’t like how small the 1080p resolution makes the icons! Look! 7 icons in a row that you need to put to your face to read the labels!
Not to mention there is no real benefit of 441ppi unless you look at it from 20cm distance and strain your eyes to focus that close…

There are several Launchers which can change the icons size.
Or setting the DPI higher (eg. 500) makes the Icons bigger, too. 1080p is a nice to have when it’s as cheap or even cheaper than a 720p phone with same specs.

But this touchscreen buttons and soft buttons: No Go. But it’s just a softwware issue which can be fixed.
