Update: The Honor 20 seems to have been saved from the dire Huawei situation as it has received Google certification. Its release is on track. Honor has officially responded to the matter saying, “We will update the availability of the Honor 20 Pro once we have further information.”
Over the past few days, Huawei has been on the receiving end of some devastating developments. US President Donald Trump has put it on a trade blacklist thus effectively shutting routes for US companies like Google, Intel, Qualcomm to do any business with them. And although this ban will have very harsh long term effects, we’re already starting to see signs of damage. The Honor 20 series was just announced on May 21, which incidentally came a couple of days after the ban announcement. And as some feared, the Honor 20 Pro could very well be already dead on arrival.

According to Winfuture, Honor was unable to get the necessary certification for its flagship before Trump’s ban which means it won’t be able to run Google services such as Google Play, YouTube and the like. And so it seems, the phone might be completely shunned by retailers even as other existing high-end devices have been getting massive price drops and trade-ins. The Huawei P20 Pro is selling as low as the Samsung Galaxy S6, for example, and the current P30 Pro’s value has halved in places like the US and Canada where people are desperately trying to get rid of them.
The Honor 20 Pro has fallen in a tricky situation where even if the company has stock of it, it can’t be sold outside of China.
