Much like the iPhone X-esque notch, the current crop of full-screen solutions like the hole-punches, or even pop-up selfie cameras will be short-lived, as major smartphones makers are already mulling more creative ways to avoiding the notch for an all screen display. Two Chinese smartphones major – Oppo and Xiaomi earlier today showed off prototypes of their under-screen cameras technology, and now, Huawei’s Honor brand has confirmed it is working on similar tech. Although Xiaomi’s prototype appears to be functional, there’s no word yet on when the phone might make it to market. The Chinese firm also recently patented a device with similar tech, so we are pretty sure it won’t end at the prototype level.
It might take a while before we finally get to see the new tech in an actual smartphone, but we can definitely bank on OPPO for timely delivery of a device with an under-display camera. Whether we want it or not, more and more phone maker will in the coming months begin to showcase a prototype of their smartphones with the same technology. Huawei Honor brand has already revealed it has a prototype device with an in-display camera in the making.

Honor president George Zhao made the revelation earlier today but hinted that the technology isn’t ripe yet to feature in any Honor phone tipped for unveiling in the coming months, instead Honor devices will continue to rely on the punch hole display which first featured in the Honor View 20 launched earlier this year. It’s likely that Honor’s in-display camera solution might not arrive until sometime in 2020.
The South Korean tech giant, Samsung earlier this year said its Infinity-O Display, used in Galaxy S10, is a “milestone” for its display technology, although going forward it will showcase a “full screen” look for upcoming smartphones indicating that it will be pushing cameras and sensors beneath the screens soo, though that might not happen in the next 1-2 years.
