Today, Tianfeng International analysts brought the latest analysis report on Apple’s 5G strategy layout and iPhone 2020.
The report analyzes Apple’s 5G strategy layout:
- It’s predicted that 5G iPhones will account for 60% of total iPhone 2020 shipments;
- Apple previously chose to reconcile with Qualcomm, which failed to develop 5G baseband chips on behalf of Intel, and the iPhone 2020 will support 5G.
- Because the US is Apple’s home market, and the US mainstream 5G technology is mmWave. Apple is unlikely to launch a 5G iPhone that only supports sub-6GHz.
- Apple will introduce its own 5G baseband chip in 2022 or 2023. Prior to this, Apple will use Qualcomm’s 5G baseband chip but does not use RF360 and adopt its own PA/RF design, in preparation for adopting its own 5G baseband chip in the future.
- We believe that after Apple and Qualcomm reconciled, Qualcomm will share some of the original 5G baseband chip code for Apple to develop 5G PA/RF.

The report also analyzes Apple’s iPhone 2020 product line:
- The iPhone 2020 line will include two high-end models – the 6.7-inch and 5.4-inch iPhones with OLED screens, and the lower-end 6.1-inch iPhone with the same OLED screen. But only the 6.7-inch and 5.4-inch iPhones will support 5G.
- The upcoming iPhone 2019 line will be the same as the current models series. Thus, it will include the 6.5-inch and the 5.8-inch iPhone with OLED screen and the iPhone with a 6.1-inch LCD screen.
A few days ago, it was rumored the iPhone 2020 is going to be the first handset to use a 5nm chip. We assume it will be the Apple A14 chip. So if combining these two, we can suppose the A14 will be the company’s first 5G that is also based on a 5nm process node.
