Say what you will about the awesome build quality, excellent performance and beautiful screen, but there is no denying many users aren’t to happy with the Oppo Find 5’s stock UI. Thankfully for those wanting a bit of a change Cyanogenmod 10.1 is now available for the Find 5.

As many of you already know, Cyanogenmod not only gives users a more ‘Android’ like experience, but also allows for more control, customisation, and personalization than a standard install.
Cyanogenmod 10.1 which is based on Android 4.2.2 is currently available to install on the Find 5 with nightly builds which you can download here.

Its about time that we should see Custom Roms for these alternative chinese brands. However I think CyanogenMod has been superseded by the like of Paranoid or even better Jelly Bam which includes the best features of CyanogenMod, Paranoid & AOKP all rolled into one. Hopefully though we will see it for other brands like Jiayu, Newman, Umi, Zopo and Neo etc
Sry to poop the bubble but it’s almost impossible to see any of these famous custom FW since Oppo is almost the only to release the sources that are necessary to build these ROM.

Well, but android is GPL, they MUST make the source code available to the public (otherwise they can’t use it). The real problem would be the amount of people interested in deving those roms.
Android is not GPL, it is under the Apache 2.0 license which does not require to make the source code public. In fact, none of the most popular manufactures distribute the source code of their Android devices, and are in fact proprietary software (based on the open source Android released but google, but forked and turned closed source). To have a true free software OS you need to use a custom ROM like Replicant, see replicant.us web site.

It would be great to have other options also, but CM10.1 is a great option. My personal favorite is SuperNexus, while all these alternative ROMs start out with the goal of removing the manufacture/carrier junkware, they all seem to get bloated with their own stuff over time. SuperNexus has done a good job of making a rock solid ROM without feature creep. If it’s not in the Nexus ROM, it’s not in the SuperNexus build!
