A tipster has revealed over the weekend that OnePlus TV will be launching soon. The company which originally dabbles in smartphones made a surprise revelation last year that it would be getting into the TV business. Although OnePlus didn’t specify an exact launch date, reports predicted launch in the second half of 2019. That will be starting next month but we still don’t have any official details regarding the launch.

As per CEO Pete Lau’s statements, OnePlus TV will be targeted at premium users pretty much like its smartphones. It will be a smart TV which will make a connected ecosystem with current OnePlus devices and also be priced at a premium. Although the TV is believed to be sporting non-OLED panels. Lau has previously also hinted at an AI assistant that will be developed for the OnePlus TV.

Regardless, the smart TV is sure to create ripples amongst competitors, especially Chinese ones like Xiaomi who have just entered the segment with very affordable prices. However, whether they will be able to capture a good market share remains to be seen. There’s no indication of a launch of the product from official sources but stay tuned as we will bring you the latest regarding the new undertaking from OnePlus as it happens.
