Lenovo are introducing a new large capacity battery phone to take the reigns from the popular P770. The new Lenovo P780 get’s a larger battery, improved styling and a larger display.
If you struggle to make it through the day on a single charge, then Lenovo’s latest P780 could be the answer to your prayers. The P780 will take over from the current P770 and as such features a number of improvements over the older phone.
Gizchina News of the week
The most important update is the larger 4000mAh battery which should provide more than enough juice even for very heavy daily usage. Other great updates include a larger 5-inch 720p display which can be used with gloves, an update to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and a redesigned body that is similar to the Intel power K900.
Running a quad-core MT6589 CPU, the Lenovo P780 also boasts dual-SIM support, 1GB RAM and 8 mega-pixel rear camera. The phone will launch later this month in China, but as of yet pricing is unconfirmed.
I know companies in China are spending a great deal on improving the effeciency, reducing the size and weight of batteries for electric vehicles.
Some of the developments are surely being used in phones. How else do you get a 4000mAh battery into a 5″ device.
If it’s anything like my Ascent Mate, it’s probably quick charging as well.
What other phone manufacturer outside China can do this?
oh, i like this one. it looks good, specs are nice and doesn’t look too thick either. non-removable battery, i bet .
So what?! Want a better one? 😛 Of course you could probably have a HUGE spare battery like the one for SG Note II from Mugen, 6400 mAh capacity. But, mounting a MT6589 I wouldn’t expect less than 100h w/normal use (1h of: video, web surfing and GSM calls for 4 days on a row).
If it was a 4″… would’ve been nice for my wife (she’s obsessed with battery duration).
no, i really didn’t mean 4000mah can be not enough. i’m ok even with 2-2.5ah, i just tried to reason how lenovo could mount such big battery in quite slim chassis
Looks good, it will probably be a bit more expensive but this is one phone I’m considering as an alternative to the Jiayu G4.
It depends on what size this one will be, if it’s over 10mm thick than no … Also if international price is over 250$ with free shipping …..
Wonder if it has Gorilla Glass ….
its nice phone ! but why only 1gb ram ): grrrrrrrr !
4k mah
I was going to buy the sheng x7.
Now i’m reconsidering.
this also seems to inherit the metal back from k900 design.
the WCDMA (3G) frequencies will be important to watch….the P770 had no 850mhz….
Need in this phone: Micro Sd reader, gorrila glass, and if its possible to add 2Gb ram. And new procesor with support Glonass. And price max 300 Usd 🙂
Anyone know the weight of this set? 4 Ah @ 3,7V is a lot of juice… Lenovo is an upscale brand (with matching prices), and thus I’d expect them to aquire more efficient Li-Ion cells than the average low-budget set – but a 4Ah battery is still going to be a quite noticable weight gain…
1080p and 2-3gb ram would be better
It might be able to benefit from more RAM – but at 5″, if the video is a good bitrate, I don’t think you’ll notice the difference unless you strap it to your forehead like a ghetto Google Glass 😉
Screen realty can still be changed through dpi/ppi settings, as with most other android devices.
ahm
onda Chinese 8″ tablet 4500mah lasts 2-3 hours
iPad mini 4500mah lasts 8-9 hours
one thing Chinese can not build and copie are batteries
High-Energy-Density Lithium-Ion cells wich are still considered consumer safe for pocket use, are expensive – and quite alot so. And an overall energy-efficient design is timeconsuming and expensive in parts. It is quite possible for a chinese tablet/phone manufacturer to aquire and use such cells (and other parts) – but it would be very difficult to still compete on price. Buying chinese phones abroad or ordering online, usually comes with a bug bump up on the pricetag from retail price, but in China the price margins are still pretty slim.
Branding is not the only reason Samsung (etc) original batteries are so expensive.
Lenovo isn’t cheapskate units, so hopefully we’ll see a decent energy efficient unit. But most likely a matching price tag.
Should be good. Its now June so hopefully it will be launched soon !
