Yesterday, at the World Mobile Conference in Shanghai (MWC19 Shanghai), He Gang, President of Huawei Consumer Business Mobile Phone Product Line spoke at the “Global Mid-Level Summit”. He shared Huawei’s 5G strategy. As the maiden year of 5G commercialization, 5G the hottest topic of MWC19 Shanghai exhibition. He Gang mentioned in his keynote speech that the 5G era brings consumers different 3D, AR, VR and other device experiences with high efficiency and low latency. He predicts that by 2025, there will be 40 billion smart terminals, 100 billion connections, and 18 billion TB of new data.

He Gang speaks on Huawei 1+8+N 5G strategy

In the speech, He Gang announced Huawei’s “1+8+N” 5G full-scene strategy. “1” stands for smartphone, “8” refers devices such as  PC, tablet, TV, audio, glasses, watches, car, and headset while “N” talks about the number of sections. Huawei has four sections so “N” implies mobile office, smart home, sports health, and audio-visual entertainment/smart travel. In the future, Huawei will build a complete scene of intelligent ecology around the core in the 5G era.

Gizchina News of the week

In this strategic system, 5G mobile phones are obviously very important. On June 25th, Huawei Mate 20 X (5G) obtained the first network access license for China’s 5G terminal. The smartphone is equipped with Balong 5000 modem, adopts 7nm process technology, supports 5G dual-mode full Netcom, and with its Kirin 980 SoC, it can realize dual card dual standby mode of “one card 4G and one card 5G”.

It should be pointed out that the mobile phones using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC+X50 modem solution do not support SA independent networking, and Huawei’s 5G chip solution can support both SA independent networking and NSA (Non-independent networking).

These two networking methods are very different. In the NSA networking mode, operators will use 4G/5G shared core network to save network investment, but the disadvantage is that they cannot support 5G features such as URLLC (low latency/high-reliability communication) and mMTC (mass machine communication). At the same time, the terminal equipment needs to connect 4G and 5G networks at the same time under the NSA network, and the power consumption is higher than that of the SA network. In order to save investment and accelerate 5G commercial use, some operators will adopt the NSA mode in the initial stage of 5G network construction, but Huawei believes that SA is the ultimate evolution direction of 5G.
