Xiaomi backed Redmi brought the Redmi 7A to India today, and it immediately got a hot knock from one of its rivals. Oppo Realme wasted no time firing shots at the new Redmi7A as Madhav Sheth, CEO for the Indian Realme branch pitched the device against its months old Realme C2.
India’s head posits that the real “Desh ka real choice” should be Realme C2 and not the Xiaomi handset. His basis of comparison is that the Realme C2 gets a more powerful SoC which has eight Cortex-A53 cores at 2 GHz. And the 7a, on the other hand, boasts of only two of the eight cores on the Snapdragon 439’s CPU at the same speed. Moreover, both devices are priced at INR5,999 ($85/€76), but the Redmi 7A could cost much more than that from August 1.

In addition to that, the RealmeIndia head further slammed the “two years old” screen and the 18:9 resolution on the 7A compared to its C2 with 19.5:9 variant with a waterdrop notch. They are both an LCD with HD+ resolution, but the difference in bezel size is notable.

Notably, He further pitted the Realme C2 dual shooter bearing a 13 MP f/2.2 lens and a 2 MP depth sensor with the Redmi 7A which only boasts of a single 12MP Sony IMX486 camera, even though it can be argued that depth sensing and bokeh features are heavily reliant on software optimization.

With the likes of the Realme C2 available in the competitive India market, Redmi could face a tough time winning users over to the side of the Redmi 7, unless perhaps it makes a u-turn by crashing the 7A retail price.
Realme should try this comparison with the Umidigi A5 Pro. They’ll get trounced, along with everyone else. I don’t think there’s another phone that can compare with the Umidigi in the budget $100 phone sector.
