Ultra-affordable Honor Play 8 unveiled in China

Honor 8 Play

Huawei’s Honor has just unveiled an ultra-affordable Android smartphone in China. The Honor Play 8 is essentially a rebranded version of the Honor 8S. The brand has partnered with D.Phone for the launch, though it is also available to buy at Vmall, TMall, JD, Suning and other retailers. The device is already available for sale on the various platforms.

It is priced at CNY599 ($120), and at that price, you get a device with the trending waterdrop notch design, a basic tall panel with 19:9 aspect ratio. The Honor Play 8 parades a 5.71-inch LCD panel with 720 x 1520 pixels screen resolution, and under its hood is Mediatek’s Helio A22 SoC. It is available only in 2GB RAM + 32GB storage version.

The device, unfortunately, gets a single rear camera setup – a 13 megapixels (f/1.8 aperture) main snapper. And on the display front is a 5 megapixels (f/2.2 aperture) selfie camera located within its waterdrop compartment. The device has no fingerprint scanner, but the front camera supports face unlock for makeup for that.

Elsewhere, the Honor Play 8 boots EMUI 9.0 based on Android Pie and is powered by a 3,020 mAh battery. It is worth noting that it supports dual SIM slot, and a dedicated microSD card slot.
