Huawei plans massive layoffs in the US

Huawei

Although the relationship between Huawei and the US is easing, Huawei still can’t enter the US market. According to “Wall Street Journal” the Chinese manufacturer is now preparing for major layoffs of its employees in the country. Huawei’s R&D department in the US is called Futurewei. It currently has about 850 employees in Texas, California, and Washington.

This layoff may involve hundreds of people, but the specific figures are temporarily uncertain. If the employee is from China, you can choose to return to China to continue working for Huawei. Futurewei is an American company, so the US Department of Commerce cannot list it. Futurewei’s relationship with Huawei’s China headquarters is now complex after Huawei’s listing.

Gizchina News of the week

At present, Huawei has not made a statement in this regard. It has been 60 days since Huawei’s listing by the US Department of Commerce. However, the partial lifting of the ban gives the Chinese company some breathing space. US companies can continue to sell products to Huawei, but only products that do not compromise US national security. These companies also have to obtain a license from the US Department of Commerce to do business with Huawei.

According to Senior US government officials, the license will be available between 2-4 weeks. However, the details and requirements are not public. As of now, we do not know the products that the Chinese manufacturer can purchase.
