Many 2019 Chinese smartphones use AMOLED panels. This ensures that the AMOLED market share continues to improve. According to a statistical report by CINNO Research, AMOLED panels in global smartphones industry accounts for 23.2% in 2018. This value will increase to 27.6% in 2019. However, in Q1 2019, the global smartphone AMOLED panel shipments hit 86.7 million, down 20% year-on-year. Samsung AMOLED panel still tops in terms of shipment and market share.
In terms of market share, Samsung is still the world’s largest supplier of AMOLED mobile phone panels. Samsung AMOLED panel has a market share of 85.7%. Nevertheless, this is the first time that Samsung’s AMOLED market share plunges below 90%. In the past few years, Samsung maintains more than 95%. Chinese AMOLED panel maker, BOE ranks second. Last year, the company ranked fifth, and this year it soared to second place with a market share of 5.9%.

BOE’s rapid advancement in the field of AMOLED panels is largely based on Huawei. Huawei is currently their number one customer. Starting from last year’s Mate 20 Pro using BOE’s AMOLED panel for the first time, Huawei used the BOE panel on the P30 Pro. This series of mobile phones shipped 10 million units in just over 80 days. CINNO Research expects BOE to remain in second place throughout this year.
According to statistics from CINNO Research, the shipment area of BOE AMOLED panels in the first quarter of 2019 rose to 50,000 m2, accounting for 6.3% of the total shipment area of global AMOLED smart machine panels. From the first quarter of 2017 to the first quarter of 2019, the quarterly compound growth rate of BOE AMOLED smart machine panel shipments reached 49.4%.
