Ren Zhengfei: Huawei to ship 270 million smartphone units this year

Chinese manufacturing giant, Huawei, is quite ambitious with its smartphone shipment target. Huawei’s initial smartphone shipments target for 2019 was 250 million units. However, it appears that the company will exceed that number. According to Guo Minghao, a well-known analyst, Huawei will regain Google’s GMS certification by the end of July. When this happens, its sales in Europe will rebound. In addition, he believes that in 2019, Huawei’s mobile phone shipments will exceed 260 million units. In a recent interview with YahooFinance, Huawei’s CEO, Ren Zhengfei, is hopeful that the company can hit 270 million units.

According to him, “although, Kirin already has a complete chip solution, Huawei still purchased 50 million Qualcomm chips last year. This year, we will still need a good number of Qualcomm chips. It is expected that the total shipment of smartphones will reach 270 million units” Note that Huawei just toppled 200 million units last year and it now hopes for more.

As for Huawei’s relationship with US companies, Mr. Zhengfei says that Huawei will continue to buy if it has the chance. He said: “if the US government allows these companies (Intel, Qualcomm, Micron, etc.,) to continue to supply, we will continue to buy products from them, although in some areas we have competing products that can be replaced”.

Ren Zhengfei believes that without Qualcomm Huawei can still survive, after all, its own chips will be better and better as time goes by, but the company is still committed to continuing to maintain a partnership. As for Intel, Ren Zhengfei expressed a similar view. Intel can continue to supply Huawei to maintain its leading position, and we will continue to purchase products from it. As of now, the US is still working out modalities on how to fully resume business with Huawei.
