Recently, Qualcomm and Tencent said they will cooperate on some projects, including the joint development 5G gaming phones. Qualcomm is the largest smartphone chip supplier for many Android vendors while Tencent has a market capitalization of ∼$453 billion. It is the largest mobile software company in China.
As one of the world’s largest game companies, Tencent’s profit s not been good for the last few months. This may be why Tencent has not recently sought to cooperate with hardware developers to open up new markets. According to the agreement, future Tencent games may be optimized for Android phones running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon game chips. Qualcomm and Tencent also plan to jointly develop a 5G gaming phone. This may help support Tencent’s streaming game service plan. 5G devices have faster connection speeds to allow more complex games to run on mobile devices. Microsoft and Google have also launched streaming game services.

Earlier this month, Tencent partnered with ASUS’s gaming hardware brand ROG to launch a gaming phone with Qualcomm chips. The Qualcomm and Tencent cooperation may also involve gaming notebooks using Qualcomm processors, and the new generation of notebooks will have 5G capabilities instead of traditional Wi-Fi chips.

Tencent is said to be developing a cloud backend service called Instant Play, which game developers can use to power streaming games.
