Pixel’s 4 Motion Sense list of supported countries and apps emerge

When Google launches the Pixel 4 series on October 14, it will also reveal a new feature coming with the device – Motion Sense. Motion Sense will allow users to control the device without touching it, thanks to the Soli Radar sensor buried in the top bezel. That’s the good old motion gestures that we’ve seen in past Galaxy Phones, though it should work much better this time around. Of course, it will feel like a gimmick for some users.

Interestingly enough, seems that this particular feature will only be available in some markets. For that reason, we believe that it’s important to know why Google’s Motion Sense will be working in some countries while others won’t get the new feature.

Motion Sense is based on Project Soli, a technology that uses advanced radar technology. Apparently Google got permission to use this technology in some countries including the United States. For that reason, we believe that these countries where the new feature will be supported are those that have granted permission to Google.

The list of countries was obtained from the Motion Sense app by Nextrift, a Malaysian tech blog that has got its hands on a unit.

The list of supported countries may grow after Google’s Pixel 4 series launches. Notable countries not on the list are China, Japan, Mexico, and India. Curiously, there is also no African or Middle Eastern country on the list. When it comes to the apps that support Motion Sense, the list will include some playback apps. That includes popular music streaming applications. We definitely hope Motion Sense does more than just change music tracks.

  • Amazon Music
  • Deezer
  • Google Play Music
  • iHeartRadio
  • Pandora
  • Spotify
  • Spotify Stations
  • YouTube Music
  • YouTube

We are looking forward to see how Google will make a feature like this one appealing for users. After all, we’ve already seen limited versions of Motion Sense or Air Gestures in older devices. However, it failed to attract much attention from customers. Earlier his year, LG came with a similar feature called Air Motion which is available on the LG G8 ThinQ. Basically, it allows you to not control playback, but also control volume with a gesture similar to you turning a knob. In addition, you can also take screenshots with a pinch gesture.
