The commercialization of 5G network has not fully taken off but we are already hearing reports on 6G. From previous experiences, the development of a new network takes several years. Recently, Huawei’s CEO, Ren Zhengfei, shared Huawei’s vision for 6G network.
Ren Zhengfei said: “6G uses high frequency, its bandwidth is very wide and the coverage is very weak. For now, it is still a fetus. It should take ten years maybe less. It’s a conservative estimate for me.”

Yu Chengdong’s views on 6G are consistent with Ren Zhengfei’s: Huawei is already developing 6G, and it is estimated that it will take another 10 years. Currently, it is also doing technical and standard research. In 2009, Huawei invested $600 million to launch 5G technology and standards. After 2016, it invested an additional $1.4 billion to accelerate the development of end-to-end 5G commercial products. Huawei’s $2 billion investment in 5G exceeds the total investment of major equipment suppliers in the US and Europe.
According to the 5G standard-essential patent report from European ETSI, Huawei accounts for 20%. This is far more than any other manufacturer. The industry recognizes that 6G will be available around 2030, and the network speed will be further improved. It is expected to reach 1Tb/s, which is 10 times that of 5G technology.
