Google recently seeded its latest stable Chrome stable version to the users. Chrome 79 brings numerous features to the table with the major ones being tab freezing and Phishing protection. Even though the new version tries to improve security, it seems like the company messed it up a little bit especially for the Indian users. The latest version of the browser was found to be leaking users’ passwords.
Earlier the company expected 50 percent of users getting affected while only 15% found to be actually affected. As of now, the company is discussing the correct strategy to resolve the issue. The browser has now started notifying affected users. If you’re one of them, then you will get a pop-up asking to change the passwords immediately. The warning message has now started rolling out for the Indian users.

The pop-up warning message is appearing when the user tries to visit the affected website. Users are getting the warning message on all the devices including mobile phones, laptops It reads, “Change your password. A data breach on a site or app exposed your password. Chrome recommends changing your password for the site.” It is worth mentioning that the company has now resumed the rollout of the Chrome 79 with the bug fix. The changelog now mentions âresolves an issue in WebView where some usersâ app data was not visible within those apps.â
As of now, Google has not commented on whether the lost data of the affected users will be restored or not. With that said, the newer patch has fixed the issue and if you haven’t updated, you can go ahead and do that.
