Back in 2018, Razer entered the router market with a gaming router designed to provide high-speed and reliable Wi-Fi performance for games. At the CES 2020 International Consumer Electronics Show, the company showed off a 5G concept version of the router. This concept device relies on wireless 5G connections as the source of the network, rather than traditional cables.

Interestingly, unlike many other home routers, this new 5G router comes with a rechargeable battery. This allows it to double as a mobile hotspot with four Ethernet ports. It also uses Razer’s FasTrack technology, which is the company’s proprietary traffic management tool that automatically analyzes and prioritizes certain traffic in the router. There is also a dedicated “game mode”.
Razer says users will also be able to manually control the priority of specific hardware (such as a console or gaming PC) or specific applications (or application categories). Companion apps for iOS and Android can be used to manage settings for the 5G router. This includes creating guest networks or changing network priorities.
In terms of hardware, Razer 5G router relies on Qualcomm’s X55 modem to connect to 5G networks and LTE. Wi-Fi is handled by the Hawkeye IPQ8072A chipset, which has Wi-Fi 6 support. Of course, it also supports Chroma lighting. As of now, this is only a concept product. There is no price or release date for this device for now.
