Google has announced which alternative search engines will be displayed to new Android users in the European Union. This means that Google will no longer be the default search engine in Android. And in this post we tell you all the details, so you can’t miss it.

Google will no longer be the default search engine on Android

After the fine that Google received from the European Commission in 2018, the Mountain View company seems to have learned the lesson. That is why, Google has decided to offer alternatives, so that Android users choose the search engine of their choice. This will be possible through a new selection screen on all Android phones that are configured for the first time.

On this screen, you can select a search engine different than Google, among three available alternatives, depending on your country of residence. Google has been created a particular auction system to choose the options that will accompany the Google search engine in this new menu.

In the auction process, there was a minimum starting price in each country. In addition, the three search engines that offered the best price will be those that accompany Google on the new welcome screen, starting next March 1. The big winner in this auction was DuckDuckGo. It will be one of the three alternative search engines offered by Google for Android in all European countries.

If you are a lover of privacy, this search engine is for you. It is a search engine that does not track you. It does not request your personal information and does not use it to perform searches on the web. Precisely, that is its strength and it is what it offers to all its users: privacy. However, it is not a search engine as complete as Google’s. It lacks some features that we are already accustomed to.
