When 4G arrived in Taiwan many years ago, the total bid for the 4G spectrum was about $17.1 billion. However, reports out of Taiwan claim that the 5G spectrum bidding officially broke the “astronomical price” peak of 4G. As of today, the latest bidding data shows that the bid amount is already at $17.6 billion. The bidding is still in progress which means that this figure is not final.
Gizchina News of the week
When the bidding in Taiwan crossed $15 billion, analysis shows that Taiwan’s 5G bid is only behind a few nations. The records show that only Germany and Italy’s 5G spectrum bid exceeds Taiwan. The NCC in Taiwan has set up a multiple auction mechanism for this 5G spectrum bidding. This is to ensure that the 5G spectrum price is high. Thus all operators basically can not withdraw.
Among them, the most popular frequency band is 3.5GHz. The bid amount hit $17.3 billion. The 28GHz frequency band remains at $300 million while there are no bids for the 1800MHz frequency band. The NCC was a bit scared. Recently, it began to call on operators to “regulate and avoid unnecessary disputes.”
According to reports, various operators cannot regress each other on the table and have begun scolding in private. Two operators have been unable to bear it, and have begun to shrink back. It is expected that the bid may be completed within this week.
