TCL unveils two new foldable and flexible concept phones

TCL is a company that deserves all the praise for not being accommodated with casual designs. Well, at least, that’s what the company is showing with its crescent interest in the foldable smartphone scene. The firm keeps trying to reinvent the form factor of these devices expanding the “cool factor”. Today, it has showcased two new concept smartphones using the increasingly popular flexible mobile displays. One of the devices folds in three while the other is rolling underneath the body.

The panels are developed by TCL-CSOT, the company’s in-house screen division. The flexible AMOLED technology currently allows a 10-inch tablet to fold into a 6.65-inch device with a 20.8:9 aspect ratio and 3K resolution. Furthermore, TCL developed two different hinges – DragonHinge and ButterflyHind. The first folds like the Galaxy Fold (inside) while the latter folds (outside) like the Mate X. Used together they enable the triple-bend form factor.

TCL concept phones appear to be a step forward the competition

The second concept reveals a gorgeous device.  This design is very ambitious since it’s a phone that expands sideways and the screen comes out from underneath the body of the device. That way the rollable AMOLED display grows from a 6.75-inch form factor to a 7.8-inch device. Unfortunately, the concept is motorized and for now, does not allow manual push-push motion.

We have to say that this concept definitively reveals a product that could be the most beautiful foldable phone to the date. It actually looks like a 2020 high-end flagship when the display is shrunk inside. Moreover, when the form factor changes, the user interface changes accordingly. It provides additional features like split-screen and multi-tasking enhancements in the tablet mode. Thanks to the different display tech, there are no wrinkles or creases on the OLED.

Unfortunately, there are no details from TCL regarding the pricing or availability of these devices. We just hope that the company manages to bring them to the market. After all, they represent a huge advancement in the foldable segment.
