Android had the most vulnerabilities of any OS in 2019

Android malware

Android is the most popular mobile platform and, as a result, the most vulnerable. Its market share is a record high, and developers and attackers are trying to create malware that allows hacking devices. A skilled hacker can gain access to all confidential information and can even track movement and conversations. In this, they are helped by “holes” in the operating system and third-party applications.

Researchers from TheBestVPN found that according to the results of 2019, the Android operating system is the leader in the number of vulnerabilities. So, last year, there was a discovery of 414 vulnerabilities. But the situation is not so bad. According to experts, the number of vulnerabilities is steadily decreasing. So, if 843 ā€œholesā€ were found in 2017, then by the end of last year their number was halved. And for the entire existence of Android, 2563 there were vulnerabilities.

Experts agree that the ā€œroot of evilā€ is far from the operating system itself, but those applications that gain access to system files. In addition to the hardware components. For example, a recent major exploit that has affected millions of Android devices is due to flaws in the firmware of the MediaTek chips.

Android is the leader in the OS market in term of vulnerabilities

For its part, Google has a commitment to improving the security of the green robot by regularly releasing security patches. The company also believes that the number of security problems fixed in the OS is not an indicator of platform security. This is actually the result of the open nature of Android, but vulnerabilities like these are one downside. This is also why Appleā€™s iOS wasnā€™t on the list.

It is worth mentioning that Google has recently corrected 71 Android security flaws in its March 2020 patch. The Mountain View company has fixed 48 breaches related to chips provided by Qualcomm. The bulletin also mentions several flaws related to unlocking by fingerprint and the USB connection of Android smartphones.

A lot of companies customizing Android and don’t test it so yes is will have problems, but to be fair generalization is not thing and give a wrong conclusions.

Actual number of disclosed CVE-s that ware patched is probably even greater, from one side because it’s dominant OS & from the other because in it’s nature it’s open source so many eyes looking trogh publicly available code. In other words it is more secure than rest of closed stuck with far less people working on it.
