Oppo joined the Wireless Power Consortium last year in January indicating that wireless charging smartphones from the brand would be coming soon. But that did not happen, instead the company showcased its 30W wireless VOOC charging technology. However, as per XDA Developers, we might soon see this charging tech on commercial devices.

Last year, Oppo exhibited a prototype smartphone with an under-display selfie camera. This prototype also had support for 30W wireless VOOC charging. Talking about this charging tech, Oppo said it uses “real-time adjustment of the charging process and efficient charging components to ensure a more efficient and safer charging while avoiding overheating”. Also, the company added that in order to “enhance safety”, they adopted a number of hardware designs to avoid overheating, HVDC and even implemented an object detection function to stop charging if a foreign metal object is detected on the charging board.

Gizchina News of the week

This fast wireless charging technology was expected to be featured on Oppo Find X2 series but sadly that did not happen. When XDA’s Editor Mishal Rahman asked Edward Tian, Oppo Charging Engineer, regarding the same, he revealed that they have successfully completed R&D and it is technically ready for launch. He also mentioned that the 30W wireless VOOC charging technology can co-exist with the 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 found on the Find X2 Pro. But unfortunately, he did not say why they ditched this tech on their new flagship smartphone.

Oppo, along with OnePlus, Vivo, Realme, and iQOO are part of BBK Electronics. Oppo’s VOOC charging tech has been continuously used by its sister brands for years with a different name (OnePlus – Dash, Warp). Recently, even OnePlus joined the Wireless Power Consortium suggesting it to launch devices with wireless charging support. On top of that, even reliable rumours and leaks have been suggesting the same. Thus, if it is true, we might see the rebranded version of 30W wireless VOOC charging technology on the OnePlus 8 series, which is expected to go official in a few weeks.
