Realme 3 and 3i get VoWiFi support via latest software update

Realme 3

Realme is rolling out a new software update for the Realme 3 and 3i smartphones. The two handsets were released last year with the only major difference being the chipset. While the Realme 3 ships with the Helio P70, the 3i boasts Helio P60. The two handsets are popular in India, and now the company decided to roll out an update that brings a highly-requested feature for the duo of mid-range phones.  The Realme 3 and 3i are the latest devices in Realme’s lineup to receive Airtel and Jio Wi-Fi calling support. In other words, they now have full VoWiFI support.

The company is enabling the new feature through an over-the-air (OTA) update. The patch is 147MB and carries the same RMX1821EX_11.A.26 build number for both smartphones. The changelog also mentions several improvements to system stability along with performance enhancements. Moreover, several known bugs have been fixed. The new VoWiFi support, essentially, means that users will be able to make calls using Wi-Fi in poor network areas. The feature was rolled to Realme 3 Pro and 2 Pro early this month.

Unfortunately, there are no major changes in this update. That means that both handsets still remain stuck on Android 9 Pie. Other devices, are receiving Android 10 and Realme UI 1.0 update, but owners of the Realme 3 duo will have to wait for a bit longer. According to the company, the update will roll out in stages. Today, it will reach a certain amount of users. If no critical bug appears, then a wide rollout will happen in the coming days.

Interestingly enough, the update bumps both devices to March 2020 Android security patch. So while they’re stuck in an old Android version, at least, they’re running with the latest security fixes.
