Yesterday, Apple finally released the 2020 iPhone SE. Just like the speculations, this device is just an upgrade of the iPhone 8. Now, that the 2020 iPhone SE is official, Apple has officially discontinued the iPhone 8 series. While the iPhone 8 has a replacement (iPhone SE 2020), the iPhone 8 Plus does not. Interestingly, the iPhone 8 series was still on the shelf before today. This shows that its decision to discontinue the iPhone 8 is directly linked to the launch of the 2020 iPhone SE. This makes sense because there are only a handful of differences between iPhone SE 2020 and iPhone 8. These includes
- The 2020 iPhone SE uses the latest A13 SoC
- It comes with a better camera software
- It has different colour options
- It is cheaper than the iPhone 8
It makes no sense for both smartphones to be in the market because they will just compete against each other.
Gizchina News of the week
The Plus model in the iPhone 8 series does not have a replacement for now
At present, the 2020 iPhone SE has replaced the iPhone 8 on Apple’s official website in China. However, there is no new device to replace the iPhone 8 Plus. This is because the 2020 iPhone SE does not include large-screen models. Nevertheless, iOS14 source code and insiders report claims that the 2020 iPhone SE has a 5.5-inch version. From the current situation, this should be sooner or later.
The new iPhone SE uses a 4.7-inch display and is almost identical in design to the iPhone 8. It also uses the top and bottom bezels, and the Home button with Touch ID but does not include Face ID.
The following are the current iPhone product lineup that Apple is selling:
- iPhone SE (2020)
- iPhone XR
- iPhone 11
- iPhone 11 Pro
- iPhone 11 Pro Max
Like we said earlier, the 2020 iPhone SE is technically an iPhone 8. If you purchase the new iPhone SE, you will see at a glance that you are dealing with a better performing iPhone 8. If you have used the iPhone 8 before, don’t get raise your hopes too high
