Kirin 985, The Third 5G Chip Of Huawei Unveiled As Well

At yesterday’s Honor new product launch conference, Huawei announced its third 5G chip, the Kirin 985.

The Kirin 985 is manufactured using TSMC’s 7nm process. It integrates a single-chip 5G baseband solution without plug-in. It supports 2G / 3G / 4G / 5G network standard and NSA / SA 5G dual-mode. The theoretical maximum downlink rate is 1277Mbps and the uplink rate is 173Mbps. The combination of Snapdragon 865 + Snapdragon X55 is about 40% and 75% faster, respectively.

At the same time, the energy efficiency of Kirin 985 is also very high. The company claims that the power consumption in 5G heavy load and light load scenarios is only 504mA and 291mA, respectively. And the energy efficiency ratio is about 1.5 times that of Snapdragon 865 + Snapdragon X55.

The Kirin 985 integrates an octa-core CPU, which is divided into a large core, three medium cores, and four small cores. It also integrates an octa-core Mali-G77 GPU, and a dual-core NPU AI unit and ISP 5.0 image unit of the same model of Kirin 990.

Previously, Huawei has successively released two 5G chips, the Kirin 990 and the Kirin 820. The Kirin 985 is the third SoC in this series. By the way, the Kirin 820 was launched by Honor 30S.

At the same time, Honor released three products of the Honor 30 series: Honor 30, Honor 30 Pro, and Honor 30 Pro+. The Honor 30 is equipped with Kirin 985. And the Honor 30 Pro and the Honor 30 Pro+ are equipped with the Kirin 990.
