Chinese manufacturing giant, Huawei will release the Huawei Mate 40 series in some weeks. While we know a couple of things regarding this series, more information are coming to light. Usually, Huawei’s new series comes with the same system. However, it appears that this will not be the case with the Huawei Mate 40 series. According to popular leakster, Evan Blass, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro will ship with EMUI 11 on top of Android 11. However, the lower Huawei Mate 40 will use EMUI 10.x on top of Android 10.

At the upcoming Huawei Developer Conference (HDC) 2020, the company will release its new system, EMUI 11. This system will be based on Google’s open-source Android 11. Recall that at HDC 2019, Huawei released its first system based on Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Of course, this system arrived with the Huawei Mate 30 series which uses EMUI 10 on top of Android 10.

The codename of the Huawei Mate 40 series is “Noah”. This will be the first time that a single Huawei series will ship with different EMUI versions. Presently, there is no explanation as to why Huawei will use different software for the same series. We want to believe that the Mate 40 will be one of the first devices to update to EMUI11 (Android11).

Furthermore, there could also be another model in this series – Huawei Mate 40 Lite. It is almost certain that the Mate 40 Lite will ship with EMUI 10.1. To get more information, we will have to wait for HDC 2020. This event will hold from September 10, 2020, to September 12, 2020. Since the coronavirus is still very much around, it will rely on online presence more.

HUAWEI MATE 40 SERIES SPECULATIONS

Recent speculations show that the Huawei Mate 40 series will come with a 90Hz display. Although there are two samples (90Hz and 120Hz), Huawei cares so much about its batteries thus it will most likely go for a 90Hz display. Its 5nm processor will be delivered before mid-September. According to @MobileWaferDarren, Huawei is going to need a lot of chips before the end of the year. The company will need 5nm, 7nm, 16nm, and 28nm  mobile chips. It will also need a TWS headset Bluetooth chip developed by HiSilicon. All these chips in their numbers will be available before mid-September.

From previous reports, the Mate 40 series will use a 5nm Kirin processor. Also, this chip combines either the Cortex A77 or A78 CPU architecture + Mali G77/G78 GPU architecture. Such a combination will guarantee a better performance for the 120Hz high refresh rate screen experience.

As for the exact name of the next Kirin 5nm chip, there has been some confusion. While there was a report that claims that it will be Kirin 1000, others say it will be Kirin 1020. Either way, there are reports that the development code of Kirin 1000 is “Baltimore”. Recall that the Kirin 990 5G uses Cortex A76 architecture. This sparks speculations that the Kirin 1000 may use Cortex A77/A78 architecture and Mali G77/G78 GPU architecture. With this combination, the performance of the CPU and GPU will increase dramatically.  In all, we will have to wait a few months to get the exact architecture of this chip.
