WhatsApp fixed major vulnerabilities and launched a new security website

Whatsapp

Today, WhatsApp announced six previously undisclosed vulnerabilities that the company has already managed to fix. The messenger has posted reports of these vulnerabilities on a dedicated security advisory website, which will serve as a new resource providing a complete list of security updates.

Whatsapp has fixed 6 major vulnerabilities and launched a new security website

The messenger admitted that five of the six vulnerabilities were fixed in one day, while the last bug took a couple of days longer. While some of the bugs would allow remote access to your data, the company said it found no evidence that hackers could have exploited these vulnerabilities.

About a third of the new vulnerabilities were discovered using the company’s specially developed Bug Bounty Program, and the rest, as you would expect, were discovered during routine code review and using automated systems.

WhatsApp is one of the most popular applications in the world, with more than two billion users worldwide. But it is also a constant target for hackers who try to find and exploit vulnerabilities in the platform.

The new website is part of the company’s efforts to be more transparent about vulnerabilities. The company says that the WhatsApp community wanted a single place to track vulnerabilities, as WhatsApp is not always able to detail its security recommendations in the release notes for each new version of the app. It looks like they’ve got it right now.

You will be able to delete Whatsapp junk files from the app itself soon

One of the biggest downsides to using WhatsApp remains its device-specific attachment. The application simply does not have the ability to cloud storage. It is why smartphones often suffer from an overload of unnecessary information. If you use WhatsApp regularly, then your device is definitely full of unnecessary junk in the form of old photos and videos.

The developers finally paid attention to this and are trying to somehow solve this problem. Soon, the app will have built-in ability to conveniently delete files you don’t need.

As reported by the WABetaInfo website, WhatsApp will soon start sending an updated user interface for the storage section that will allow you to easily view and delete large files that you may no longer need.

The Data and Storage section will completely change the look. At the top, you will see a storage line where your media and other files will be separated. Below there are two sections. Forwarded Files and Large Files with the ability to view and delete unneeded files to free up more space.

Most of the garbage that the application accumulates can be associated with the transferred files from various groups. With the updated interface, you can easily understand what has been uploaded and what can be deleted. Under these two sections, you will see your chats, both group and individual. And how much space they take up on your device.

It should be understood that the new section is still under development. So there is still a big chance that this feature will be better before the official release. We expect that there will be beta testing first before submitting the new version to all users.
