The OnePlus 8T quickly escalated from a rumored device to something that is officially coming in the next month. We already got some details about the new handset, and as usual, OnePlus is not shy about sharing some tidbits about the handset ahead of its release. Now, Pete Lau, the company’s CEO has just confirmed an interesting detail about the OnePlus 8T. It’s coming with a 120Hz display.
The company’s executive revealed the smooth refresh rate during an exclusive interview given to Tech Radar. According to Lau, the OnePlus 8T is indeed coming with a 120Hz refresh rate and the size of the display will be the same as its OnePlus 8 sibling – 6.55-inch. According to him, the company’s engineers are working to improve the overall smoothness of the display. Moreover, it will bring better color accuracy and the maximum brightness will be better than the old model. The panel even got an A+ rating from Display Mate.

Apparently, the new phone will come with a new 2.5D flexible glass that allows it to shine more than the usual. The new device will be quite bright with a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. As aforementioned, the team behind the handset improved the colors and the handset will offer the “highest possible color accuracy across the industry”. Apparently, the phone will come with a flat display rather than a curved one that is present on the OnePlus 8 Pro. Since we’re talking about the Pro, it seems that we will not have an 8T Pro model this time around, maybe early in the next year.
The new OnePlus 8T will go official on October 14 and will be a better offering for those who can’t pay for the OnePlus 8 Pro but want to get a similar experience.
Upgraded specs for the OnePlus 8T
Under the hood, the new handset will pack the newer Snapdragon 865 Plus which means an actual performance boost over its predecessors. This will be paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of Storage. It’s too soon to affirm that this will be the only combo available. The device will pack a Quad-Camera setup comprising a 48MP main sensor, 16MP ultra-wide, 5MP macro cam, and 2MP depth sensor. Interestingly enough, the available renders reveal that OnePlus will be adopting a different (squarish) design language for the cameras this time around.
More details will likely emerge in the coming weeks, as OnePlus isn’t a company that keeps secrets for a long time.
