Xiaomi unveils Mi TV Lux Ultra 82-inch series with 8K display and 5G


Xiaomi is well known for its competitive smartphones, however, the company has much more to offer if you’re in the right country. In its homeland, the company has a huge portfolio of products from electric shavers to electric bikes, from kids-centric tablets to stunning smart TVs. Talking about the latter, today, Xiaomi unveiled a new series of Smart TVs in China. The company currently calls this new lineup Mi TV Lux 82-inch and Mi TV Lux Ultra 82-inch. If their names didn’t spoil that for your, yeah they come with 82-inch displays.

The new panels bring MEMC motion compensation technology, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos support. The  Lux Ultra 82-inch brings a whopping 8K resolution with a 60Hz refresh rate. Another interesting detail is that this is one of the first TVs to ship with 5G connectivity.

The Mi TV Lux 82-inch is the “low-end” offering of the series, but don’t think that this means less than “premium specs”. For instance, the TV brings a 4K OLED panel with HDR10+ support and a 178-degree viewing angle. It also comes with a 93% DCI-P3 color gamut, a 1000 nits peak brightness, and a 1400000:1 contrast ratio. This TV carries a MediaTek MT9650 chipset with Mali-G52 MCI GPU and does not include 5G connectivity. The chipset is paired with 5GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It runs on the Patchwall platform.

The software is packed with automatic low latency mode, variable refresh rate. Connectivity features include Dual-Band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, 3 HDMI 2.1 ports, 2 x USB, S/PDIF, and an Ethernet port.

The Ultra variant is the model for those who want a next-level experience. The OLED display brings a whopping 8K resolution with a 178-degree viewing angle. It comes with a wider DCI-P3 Color Gamut with 98 percent. Moreover, this display is brighter with a 2000 nits peak brightness and 1400000:1 contrast ratio. The panel also brings HDR10+, MEMC, and Dolby Vision support.

The chipset is an uncommon Novatek 72685 solution. It’s a Quad-Core chipset with Mali G51 MP4 GPU. The most interesting part is that this chipset brings seamless 5G connectivity. The smart TV is backed with 4GB of RAM and a whopping 256GB of Storage. Another premium details are a retractable soundbar on the sides that has eight speaker units.

The software also brings automatic low latency mode, DC dimming, variable fresh rate. Just like its sibling, this tv runs on Xiaomi’s custom Patchwall. We have dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, 3 x HDMI 2.1 ports, 2x UBS, S/PDIF, and an Ethernet port as well.

Pricing and Availability

Although this topic brings “availability” info, there’s no much hope for users outside of China. In its homeland, the Mi TV Lux 82-inch 4K variant is priced at CNY 9,999 which is $1,465. The high-end model with 8K resolution comes at a CNY 49,999 price tag, which is around $7,300. Yeah, 8K panels are far from being accessible at this point. The actual sales will open on October 21.
