Huawei unveiled its Huawei Mate 40 series in late October made of the Huawei Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, 40 Pro Plus, and the usual Mate RS Porsche Design. The devices came with outstanding design and specifications and a smooth software experience thanks to the EMUI 11 firmware running on top of Android 10. Now, the company is rolling out a new software update to provide a better user experience for those who are rocking any of the aforementioned devices.
The update still is based on EMUI 11, but it bumps the firmware version from 11.0.0.150 to 11.0.0.155 SP1. For those interested in the new patch, it is rolling out in a phased manner in China. So it may take a couple of days to reach all eligible units. But we believe that the wait will worth it for users of these flagships. You can try to force check the update via System >> Software Update >> Check for Updates menu. However, there is no guarantee that the update will pop out for you through this method. The update changelog only mentions “improved system stability”. We’re not sure about the exact changes made with this update as companies often neglect info about these underhood improvements.

Huawei Mate 40 phones – The last devices coming with a Kirin chipset
The Huawei Mate 40 series hits a milestone in Huawei’s story and basically finishes an era. The devices come with the 5nm Kirin 9000 processor, and unfortunately, maybe the last ones rocking this excellent chipset. After the US ban restrictions escalated in September, TSMC was forced to cease its business with Huawei. The Taiwanese chipmaker was behind the supply of most of the HiSillicon chipsets, especially the ones featuring the cutting-edge 5nm and 7nm standards. Now, Huawei does not have its chipset division and needs to rely on other companies such as MediaTek to give powerful chipsets for its smartphones.
For the next year, there’s no certainty about the chipsets inside of the Huawei P50 series. Some rumors point to the last batch of Kirin 9000 SoCs. However, the company’s CEO claimed, months ago, that the Kirin 9000 will be only present in the Mate 40 series. We may see, the next phones coming with the unreleased MediaTek chipsets featuring 6nm architecture. For now, the Huawei Mate 40 phones have to conquer new users while they keep the current user base. The devices come with gorgeous curved displays and professional cameras powered by LEICA. However, the lack of Google apps still is a major problem for global customers.
