Xiaomi announced its MIUI 12 version way back in April and since then has been working hard to bring the update for its device. Two days ago, the company announced the next iteration of its software, dubbed MIUI 12.5, even though there are multiple devices waiting for the vanilla MIUI 12. Well, as far as the POCO M2 is concerned, the wait is over.
The POCO M2 units in India are getting the MIUI 12 stable update, exactly one week after the POCO M2 Pro. For those unaware, the POCO M2 is more a Redmi 9 clone than an original device. It’s sold exclusively in India just like its Pro sibling. The Redmi 9 got this update in the last month, so the release for the POCO M2 was just a matter of time.
The new firmware bears software version MIUI 12.0.1.0.QJRINXM and has about 500MB in size. The new update brings a new visual overhaul. For instance, notifications are now shown in a separate panel. If you swipe down in the corner, you’ll get access to the Control Center with shortcuts for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Brightness, and more.
Gizchina News of the week
MIUI 12 brings Dark Mode 2.0 that enables a “Forced Dark Mode” in apps that do not have a Dark Mode. The company also focused on privacy with this update offering more ways for users to control their data. There is a new health app with more information and more. In case you’re concerned about security, the new update adds December 2020 security patch, which certainly is a plus. The changelog also mentions “reduced system lag”.
Unfortunately, it still based on Android 10. We don’t know when, but we’re expecting at least one Android 11 update for the POCO M2 as the device was released with Android 10.
