LG Innotek Plans to Invest $500 Million to Increase iPhone Camera Output

As Nikkei reported today, LG Innotek, a subsidiary of South Korea’s LG Group, is planning to invest 547.8 billion won, or about $0.5 billion, to increase the output of iPhone camera modules. It will use the funds to expand the scale of the factory and use CMOS image sensors from Sony and Samsung to manufacture camera modules. The final product will be shipped to the Foxconn factory in Taiwan, China, to assemble the iPhone.

Financial reports show that LG Innotek’s revenue in 2020 will increase by 20%. Thus, it will reach 954 billion won, or about $0.86 billion. 60% of revenue comes from the manufacturing of iPhone parts. LG Innotek has branch factories in Huizhou, Yantai and Fuzhou in China.

This company is good at the research and development of image stabilization technology for smartphone cameras. The company is currently preparing new orders from Apple and other companies. The media speculate that the company has signed a long-term iPhone supply agreement with Apple.
