Meizu 18 gets 80% power in 30 minutes – Pro model supports wireless charging

While we wait for the official launch of the Meizu 18 series on March 3rd, the company is releasing more teasers of this series. Earlier today, we had official confirmation that this series will not have a charger in the box. Now, the latest teaser is on the charging of these smartphones.

According to the company, the Meizu 18 can get up to 80% in 30 minutes. This is not entirely spectacular and it is not a selling point either. In the Android camp, we now have smartphones that get a full charge in 20 – 25 minutes. Thus, getting an 80% charge in 30 minutes is below the competition for flagships. Furthermore, Meizu’s teaser reveals that the Meizu 18 Pro will support wireless charging. However, the company did not reveal the wireless charging capacity for this device.

The Meizu 18 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor and a 4000 mAh battery that supports 36W wired fast charging. On the other hand, the Meizu 18 Pro will use the flagship Snapdragon 888 SoC as well as a built-in 4500 mAh battery that supports 40W wired fast charge.

Meizu 18 and 18 Pro alleged specifications

According to the official page on Weibo, the Meizu 18 will have a 6.2-inch diagonal. We already know that the handset will have curved edges on the size and a single punch hole in the middle. Meanwhile, the Meizu 18 Pro will flaunt a QHD+ resolution. The new resolution is being a tendency for new 2021 flagships and it’s good to see that Meizu 18 Pro will not be behind other high-end phones in this aspect. The phone will bring a 2.5D curved glass finish. In counterpart to last year’s flagships that had a right-aligned punch-hole, the Meizu 18 series will bring a centered punch hole.

Gizchina News of the week

Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro

The resolution isn’t the only difference between the duo of flagships. The Meizu 18 will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC. The Meizu 18 Pro, on the other hand, will have a bigger and mightier Snapdragon 888 platform. Worth noting that the Snapdragon 870 still is a capable chipset. It has been released as an upgrade over the Snapdragon 865/865+.

The platform brings more power and efficiency but has similar architecture. Qualcomm has this chipset for cost-effective flagships. Hence companies will not need to use the last year’s chipsets, as the Snapdragon 870 will be a more advantageous option. The Meizu 18 and 18 may also differ in battery capacity and charging speed. Some leaks suggest a 4,000mAh battery in the vanilla and 4,500mAh on the bigger variant. Unfortunately, the devices will lack a charging brick. Instead of going against the tendency to make its devices differ, Meizu will simply follow what other companies are doing.

The duo of flagships will go official in the next week. So stay tuned for more details about them. Meizu is also set to unveil Android 11-based Flyme 9 and Meizu Watch during the event. Although rumors were suggesting a Meizu 18Max variant, it does not seem to be coming this time.
