Soon after, various reports started flooding in claiming that the foldable device will see its unveiling in the second half of 2021. Galaxy Z Flip 2 to launch with a Flip 3 moniker instead!
According to a new report by SamMobile, it looks like Samsung is not keen to launch a clamshell foldable device with the name Galaxy Z Flip 2. Instead, the chaebol is planning to go with a different moniker altogether. We’re looking at the Galaxy Z Flip 3. The new naming choice is the company’s way to equalize the monikers of the two foldable series – Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold.

Since the Galaxy Z Fold is Samsung’s original foldable phone, the series is actually leading with two devices. The Flip, on the other hand, will see the second iteration later this year. These naming differences between the two series might actually end up confusing the buyer even more. There’s a solid chance that interested buyers might end up perceiving Z Flip 2 as the older generation of the device when compared with the Fold 3 even though they will launch in the same year.
To avoid situations like this, Samsung is going with the Galaxy Z Flip 3 moniker in a bid to equalize the monikers. In the world of smartphones, the moniker doesn’t really make a huge impact as to what the product hides behind the body does.
This is not the first time Samsung is changing its naming scheme. In fact, the company decided to skip the Galaxy Watch 2 last year and ended up launching the Galaxy Watch 3 instead.
Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Fold 3 to launch in the second half of 2021
With the latest development, Samsung will now launch two foldable devices dubbed Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3. We should see both the devices going official somewhere in the second half of 2021. In fact, it might happen in the month of August as the company generally hosts a Galaxy Unpacked event in the same month.
