Microsoft recently announced that its new Xbox Series X/S will support AMDās FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) technology. This technology is quite new and it was released at theĀ Taipei International Computer Show. AMDās FSR is a benchmark against Nvidiaās DLSS technology. The major goal of this technology is to provide a higher running frame rate for game consoles. Simply put, FSR is a graphics processing enhancement feature.
When AMD released the FSR technology, it said that the technology is developed around advanced spatial magnification algorithms that optimize the game through ultra-high-quality edges and unique pixel details. Of course, the company had to test this technology with an active super quality game. The Xbox Series X running the “Fall of the Gods” at 4K resolution hits 49fps. However, after turning on FSR, the number of frames increased to 78fps. This represents an increase of 59%. At the same time, FSR technology also supports the normal quality, balance, and performance mode under 4K resolution. In this mode, the FPS of the game can be increased by more than twice.
Gizchina News of the week
Microsoft’s gaming console will not be the only device to use AMD’s FSR. According to the company, Radeon RX 6000, RX 5000, RX 500, and RX Vega graphics cards, as well as all Ryzen processors with Radeon graphics cards, will be able to enable the FSR function.
However, there are reports that FSR technology is only available to developers rather than on hardware upgrades. Thus, it is not clear when the games on Microsoft Xbox Series X/S can support FSR technology for consumers.
Xbox Series X/S to monopolize Dolby Atmos/Vision
According to Microsoft, its Xbox Series X / S internal preview users will be able to test Dolby Atmos and Dolby Atmos/Vision soon. This feature should allow gamers to haveĀ better audio and video experience than HDR. However, there are also reports that this feature will be exclusive to Xbox for two years. This means that Sony PS5 players will have a couple of years of waiting.
However, Microsoft has since denied having such an exclusivity agreement in place. The company said:
A blog post was mistakenly published by a local Xbox team that included inaccurate information regarding exclusivity of Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision on Xbox Series X|S. There is no exclusivity agreement of either tech on Xbox. We are proud to partner with Dolby to offer Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision to gamers on Xbox and will have more to share about the general availability of Dolby Vision on Xbox Series X|S soon.
Well, it’s easy for Microsoft to deny the claims now and then do the exact opposite later. We will wait and see what happens.
