Vivo NEX lineup will bring rollable, slideable and foldable smartphones

Two years ago, Samsung and Huawei kicked off the foldable segment with the Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X respectively. While the Chinese firm lost some grip due to the US ban and the crescent sanctions, the Korean firm managed to become the strongest firm in this segment. Samsung is now on the third generation of its foldable smartphones and already has two distinct form factors – a tablet-like smartphone under the Z Fold series and a clamshell-like folding smartphone under the Z Flip series. This year, other companies like Xiaomi are finally joining this segment. According to rumors, other firms like Oppo and even Google will unveil foldable smartphones this year. Now, it seems that Vivo is also preparing the terrain for entering the foldable segment. Moreover, the company may play with slideable and rollable concepts.

Until the end of the year, Vivo may make its entrance in the foldable segment. The company will, once again, use the Vivo NEX moniker to bring innovative smartphones. If you recall, it started with the Vivo APEX that was the world’s first smartphone will a full-screen design and a pop-up camera mechanism. The APEX became Vivo NEX and started a whole trend of smartphones with a full-screen design and pop-up cameras. The Vivo NEX will make a comeback this year and will bring cutting-edge design and innovative solutions. In addition to a foldable smartphone, the company will also release a rollable Vivo NEX and a slideable Vivo NEX in the future.

Vivo NEX Slide, NEX Fold, and NEX Roll coming soon

On May 24, Vivo has trademarked not one but three NEX devices. These devices are namely, NEX Slide, NEX Fold, and NEX Roll. The names are pretty much self-explanatory. The Slide will probably have a slideable display, the Fold is the foldable smartphone we’re expecting. Finally, the NEXT Roll will be a smartphone with a rollable screen. Last year, OPPO showcased it’s Oppo X 2021 as the world’s first rollable smartphone. In fact, this solution seems to be more promising than what we have in the foldable segment. LG was also preparing a rollable smartphone, but it didn’t survive the company’s failure in the smartphone market.

One time that Vivo and Oppo are part of the same conglomerate (BBK) we assume that these companies are sharing certain technologies. This will not be the first time, of course. So if Oppo has the skills for making rollable smartphones, we can assume that Vivo can as well.

Unfortunately, we don’t know anything besides the names. Hopefully, more info will emerge in the coming months.
