OnePlus 9 RT coming soon with Snapdragon 870+ and OxygenOS 12

OnePlus 9 RT

OnePlus introduced the “T” series of its current flagships in the days of the OnePlus 3 and since then we’ve been used in seeing these devices every year. The T-series flagships usually pack minor upgrades over the flagship models. In the past, they brought higher specifications and distinct designs, however, since the OnePlus 8T, the company has been changing the formula. While the OnePlus 8T arrived with a distinct design, the device was not much ahead of the other two OnePlus 8 series devices in terms of specs. Rumors have been suggesting that OnePlus could skip the “T-series” flagship this year, but now, a new report suggests that the third device in the OnePlus 9 series, the OnePlus 9R, will get a “T” variant in October dubbed OnePlus 9 RT.

The OnePlus 9R was launched as a “cost-effective” or “toned-down” version of the OnePlus 9 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870. Although rumors are suggesting that the absence of a OnePlus 9T, they now suggest the launch of a new “T-series” version of the OnePlus 9R. The device in question will carry OnePlus 9 RT moniker. The new device will carry Android 12-based OxygenOS 12 straight out of the box.

Gizchina News of the week

The OnePlus 9 RT probably will be the first OnePlus smartphone to hit the market with Android 12. Interestingly, OnePlus may unveil its next Android skin in the coming days. We’re expecting the announcement to happen soon, as the Android 12 official rollout should begin sometime in September. The current flagships will be the first to receive it through an update. However, we’re not expecting the update to come fastly for them. Nowadays, the OnePlus has a myriad of devices to take care of and this is delaying OxygenOS upgrades. As far as rumors suggest, the new update will introduce features like Floating Windows, new Privacy features, and a theme store. Other Color OS features will also come as OnePlus and Oppo are slowly merging the software experience. The update will not feature Material You design and will be more on par with OxygenOS 11.3.

OnePlus 9 RT alleged specifications

As far as specifications go, the OnePlus 9 RT will pack the 120 Hz AMOLED display from the current OnePlus 9R. It will also have the very same 4,500 mAh battery with 65 W fast-charging support. The big news here will be the higher-binned version of the Snapdragon 870 SoC. It will probably reach the market as Snapdragon 870+ SoC, but it is yet to get an official release. This is something interesting and particularly curious to hear. After all, the Snapdragon 870 is considered a Snapdragon 865 Plus on steroids, or SD865++ if you prefer. Could be Qualcomm boosting the clock speed in the base SD865 even further?

Of course, we still need to wait for official confirmation from OnePlus and also from Qualcomm. Anyway, both companies seem to be adapting their strategies to the current crisis in the semiconductor industry.
