Newman will launch the Newman K2 very soon, but we have already got our hands on a prototype of the new big screen phone for testing!
Newman have been kind enough to lend us a prototype for their soon to launch Newman K2 Android smartphone. The K2 is the 2nd K series phone to launch and their larger to date with a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 OGS panel!
Getting the Newman now is quite handy as we can easily compare it to the Neo N003, which offers the same basic hardware as the K2 but with a slightly smaller 5-inch panel.

Newman K2 first impressions
As usual this is just our first impressions of the phone and not a full review (you can expect that next week). So as a first hands on what do we think of the new Newman phone?
Well the display is as stunning as you would expect, and although it is .5-inch larger than the Neo N003 the overall size is only slightly more!
Gizchina News of the week
Both the Neo and Newman we have on test are the basic versions so they both have the same 1.5Ghz MT6589T processor and 1GB RAM. In Antutu the Newman scores slightly less than (due to the larger screen) and we can see that the phone suffers from a similar lag issue on the home screen (a change in launcher will be tested to see if it fixes the problem).
From our initial hands on with the K2 the screen doesn’t feel as responsive as the Neo, and the 12.6 mega-pixel rear camera doesn’t offer the same degree of clarity, but more on this in the full review.
That’s all for now, but we’ll leave you with some hands on photos of the Newman K2, with comparisons to the Neo N003 .
Full Newman K2 review coming next week. Thanks to Anybuying for helping us to receive the sample from Newman.
Why K2 has choosen 5.5inch screen? It was wrong decision IMGO. Today’s standart screen is 5inch not 5.5inches. K2 seeems to hard to grasp in one hand because of it width.
It isn’t much wider than the 5-inch Neo
Can I ask what would be your first choise Andi? Would you prefer Newman or Neo?
I’ve only been playing with the Newman for a morning, but I’d say Neo
both are giant pieces of plastic
u shud stay happy under 5 inch imean look at them
they are so ugly
i say xiomi which u use is d best even for next 2 years
newman?
Thank u.
I got the N2 and crappy software makes the phone totally useless!
I am not able to charge the phone to 100% – not even able to charge it on one time connection – I have to disconnect and connect the charger to make the charging working
Futhermore – display – it broken after month of using – tape/connector and +100$ for replacement.
So – I will never buy Newman again…
Sorry to hear your experience with Newman. Mine has been pleasent so far. I probably won’t be getting a K2 though, since I’m more than happy with my THL W11. Will still be nice to read it’s review though.
@Emka: N2 probably is the most notorious phone Newman has ever made. But K1 was a good phone, all of the actual user reviews about it was good. Now comes K2, so far reviews are ok.
@Airyl: Can you make a review about your THL W11 Monkey King? I haven’t seen any actual user review about the phone. All the reviews about the phone has been done by resellers.
If I wouldn’t ordered Neo N003, I would buy THL W11 as you did. That phone also makes my mouth wet. Can you tell us how do you think about batter life of thl w11?
The battery life is fine for a really moderate user, but it could be a LOT more better. If you’re ok with flashing ROMs, using the one in the link improves the battery life significantly, enough for pretty hardcore use actually. The phone is built really well, it doesn’t flex much and feels pretty good in hand. It’s also probably one of, if not the smexiest MTK phone on the market. The rear camera is pretty good, but the front camera is one of the best on the market. I will be submitting a full review of it to Gizchina this week, so stay tuned for that. 🙂

Andi, are the K2 and the N003 really the same width? I don’t understand how Neo could make a phone with a 5″ screen so wide, especially compared to something like iOcean X7 which is under 70mm. Am I missing something?
No they aren’t you can see from the photos that the Neo is slightly narrower
Cool, thanks, the table above said 78mm which made my jaw drop a bit 😉 Don’t suppose you know what the actual width is?
This are dimentions of Newman K2 153 x 78 x 9.8, and this are the dimentions of Neo N003 142.5*71*10.5. I collected values from different sites and I believe they are correct.
The width difference is 7 mm, while lenght difference is 11 mm.
Thanks, 71mm is much more suited for one-handed use for me (damn my genes 😉
No, thanks. Sub par performance, design and build quality, there are better phones out there already on similar price range.
