The Xiaomi Box was has been out for almost a year now, so the company have decided to roll out an updated which improves both performance and connectivity.
The original Xiaomi Box was Xiaomi’s first attempt to enter the home entertainment market. After a rocky start (due to program licensing issues) the MIUI set-top box has been selling well to Xiaomi fans across China.
Today an updated version of the box has been announced with a faster 1.5Ghz processor, 5Ghz WIFI (to handle faster streaming), built-in bluetooth 3.0 to connect to wireless speakers and a new 11 button remote (to same as the one used on the Xiaomi TV).
Gizchina News of the week
The increase in CPU speed is most interesting to us as we have heard rumours that the Xiaomi Box and Xiaomi TV will receive a MIUI Game market, the extra grunt from the Cortex A9 CPU should help improve gaming and overall performance.
The current Xiaomi Box costs just 299 Yuan in China ($48) and we imagine this new version will be priced the same.

Any idea about international availability? international resellers? TIA
how is it different from cheaper Android USB sticks for TV? this 2999RMB 47″TV which is same or sometimes even more expensive than other brands and this Android box are fail, it should be at least 100RMB cheaper if the want to have interesting price, otherwise I can just buy cheaper 7″ tablet or Android USB stick for same or lower price instead of some bulky box
I can admit their phones have great value if you can snatch one after releasing (which is basically impossible and you have to wait months when competition already matched their offer), but these TV stuff is fail
there’s a special remote control for it, possibility to use it on old tv with no usb or hdmi, ethernet port…
not everyone lives with the last techs !
The Xiaomi Box could be a winner if it is well speced and has features like digtal output for feeding an external DAC and amplifier.
Would it work in western countries?
Ironically, you might need a …. VPN in order to use it with the program and features as it is now used in mainland China.
I don’t understand —xiaomi doesn’t have to restrict itself to yesteryear products like the A9… why doesn’t this thing have an A15? I’d love to see sata 6gbps on a low power set-top, but the only way that is happening is if they use the more recent IP.
