SHARP AQUOS zero6 launched with 240Hz refresh rate; It’s one of the lightest 5G smartphones

Sharp was one of the first companies to present a bezel-less smartphone to the world. The SHARP AQUOS debut several years ago with a design that was later used by Xiaomi in its original Mi MIX smartphone. That said, the Japanese firm is known for some first in the smartphone market, and is also an amazing company when it comes to displaying technology. The company isn’t the most trending smartphone maker, especially due to its focus in the Japanese market, however, it keeps its AQUOS lineup updated. Today, the brand presented a mid-range smartphone dubbed SHARP AQUOS sense6, and also a more powerful SHARP AQUOS zero6. The latter arrives as the lightest 5G smartphone, and thankfully, it is not sacrificing the battery capacity.

SHARP AQUOS zero6 specifications

The new SHARP AQUOS zero6 measures 158 x 73 x 7.9 mm in dimensions and weighs approximately 146 grams. Despite this lightweight package, the device has a decent 4,010 mAh battery. For comparison, Apple’s iPhone 12 mini weighs only 135 grams. However, it has a compact display and a tiny 2,227 mAh battery. The newer iPhone 13 mini is heavier with 141 grams, but not much has been done to the battery besides a slight increase to 2,438 mAh. The zero6 weighs a few grams more and has almost twice the iPhone 13 mini battery capacity.

Despite its lightweight profile, the device still has a big 6.4-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. The device is also the first smartphone to hit the market with a 240 Hz refresh rate panel. Once again, Sharp is proving its commitment in bringing innovation to the display department. The panel also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus for cutting-edge protection.

The SHARP AQUOS zero6 could have been an interesting flagship with the Snapdragon 888. However, Sharp decided to make it a premium mid-range cutting some corners in the performance department. The device has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC with 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. It houses a Quad-Camera setup with a 48 MP primary sensor. The other sensors are an 8 MP ultrawide, an 8 MP 2x telephoto shooter, and a ToF sensor. Thankfully, we haven’t the generic combo with two 2 MP macro/depth sensors. For selfies and video calls, the device has a 12.6 MP camera inside of a dewdrop notch. In fact, the device’s design is very close to its sibling the sense6.

On the connectivity front, the device has 5G, Dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.1. Moreover, it has dual-band GNSS, NFC with Osaifu-Keitai, and a USB Type C port. It runs Android 11 straight out of the box and has a MicroSD card slot up to 1 TB, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and IP68 certification for dust and water resistance. In other words, the device offers basically the same features as the sense6.

Just like with the sense6, there aren’t details for pricing. However, the device will go on pre-order on September 29. It comes in Black, White, and Purple colorways.
