Apple announced revisions to its Find My Feature when it released the AirTags, mentioning that the feature would be able to find more than just the user’s iPhone.
This exact feature was promised for the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max with iOS 15, and, despite a minor delay, this feature is finally being rolled out to users, as spotted by SlashGear.
What Does this New Find My Update for the AirPods Allow For?
For those curious, this feature is already present for the AirPods via the old Find My app, but, there were limitations to this method. It is currently usable with just Bluetooth range, which is useful in the general area where the AirPods are present.
However, if you do not know where you left your AirPods, this feature is not as useful. Now, with the latest firmware upgrade for both the AirPods Max and AirPods Pro, locating the earbuds will be much easier.
Other devices with support for Find My Network will prompt the owner if they are near the accessories, but, for that to happen, you will need to turn on Lost Mode for the same.
This new update is also refreshing the Find My app interface for the search functionality. The UI is now similar to the AirTags Find Nearby screen, without directions of course, since the AirPods lack the U1 Ultra-Wideband chip.

In order to get this functionality, users will need to update the AirPods Max and AirPods Pro to the latest update, which can happen randomly without any method to trigger this update.
What Else is Apple Working On in Relation to the AirPods?
In other Apple news, it seems that Apple’s AirPods 3 is still going to launch before 2021 ends, despite not making an appearance during the iPhone 13 launch event, which also saw the announcement of devices such as the Apple Watch Series 7 and iPad Mini.
This information comes to us via a report by DigiTimes, which suggests that Apple is still likely to launch the third generation of its first truly-wireless earbud before the year ends.
Prior to the launch of the iPhone 13 series, popular Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo mentioned that during Apple’s California Streaming event that took place on September 14, the company would unveil the third-gen earbuds as part of the digital event.
This did not happen, but, despite this, rumours have mentioned that the AirPods have entered production, with the Cupertino-based giant keen to launch the TWS before the end of the year.
