Samsung has detailed its interesting plans for One UI 4 today. Besides announcing a new skin for Windows computers, the company also disclosed some of the features coming with the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 for smartphones. The company also announced via its Members forum that it’s bringing One UI 4.0 open beta to its Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3. The two foldable smartphones are some of the flagship smartphones unveiled by the company this year. So it’s natural to see them getting the same beta treatment. Moreover, this indicates that they will be among the first batch of devices getting stable Android 12 from Samsung.
Galaxy Z Fol3 and Z Flip3 will join One UI 4 beta
For now, the initial rollout will only reach the few devices in South Korea. The update will gradually expand to other markets. Those who want to participate will need to register with their Samsung account via the Samsung Members app. The update is not open at the time of this writing. However, it should reach the devices enrolled in the beta program in the coming weeks. We’ll update you as soon as this starts to happen.
Gizchina News of the week
Worth noting that the beta update isn’t meant for average or inexperienced users. The first update will come carried with bugs and issues and the whole purpose of beta testing is to submit bug reports so Samsung can improve and iron out the issues in the software. Smartphone makers have been using beta-testing programs to find and fix bugs that would only appear in real-life usage scenarios. One time that this may be a buggy update, flashing it on a super expensive foldable smartphone may not be a good idea if you don’t know what you’re doing.
More S Pen features should be coming for the Galaxy Z Fold3
The Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 run a distinct version of One UI, the 3.1.1 version. Samsung always brings exclusive features for foldable smartphones, and One UI 4 for the foldable may also come with new features. The Galaxy Z Fold3 is even more special, as this is the first foldable smartphone with support for Samsung stylus S Pen. One UI 4.0 may introduce even more features for the S Pen next year. After all, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will be announced with an S Pen slot and it will likely come with special tweaks to make the stylus useful. The S22 devices should arrive with One UI 4.0 straight out of the box, or even One UI 4.1.
