Search giant Google is popular for its software products, be it YouTube or the PlayStore or Android, but it also has a hardware side, making different products in the tech industry.
Having said that, the company lacks an entrant in the smartwatch market, with the only contribution from the company being in terms of software, namely Wear OS, which is a platform for major smartwatch makers.
In recent times, reports and rumours have hinted at the company launching the Google Pixel Watch, a smartwatch that intends to showcase the best of what Wear OS as a platform has to offer.
Google Could Launch Long-Rumoured Pixel Watch in 2022
Now, it seems that this watch is going to end up launching in 2022, with a report from Business Insider, quoting sources who are familiar with the subject suggesting that the Pixel Watch is going to launch in 2022.
This is in tune with the vision Google has for its Pixel series of smartphones, which is to showcase the best of what Google has to offer in terms of software, Android being the software of choice in this case. The report adds that this new smartwatch will be demonstrating the best of what Wear OS has to offer.

Furthermore, it seems that this smartwatch is being made by Google’s Pixel hardware group, instead of being related to Fitbit, with the latter having been purchased by the search giant earlier this year.
Another source has told Verge that this device is likely to retail for more than Fitbit’s offerings and will most probably take on Apple’s Watch series, which will be an interesting scenario indeed.
What Else Do We Know About the Watch?
As of the time of writing this article, we know very little about the watch, with the report adding that the Google Pixel Watch will feature support for heart rate monitoring and step tracking, which is not enough to take on Apple’s best.
Talking about Apple, the new Apple Watch features the S6 chip and houses a larger screen. It also comes with multiple useful features for people who are looking after their health. The watch comes with a sensor for measuring the level of oxygen in the blood, which will help to assess the overall fitness and well-being.
Not only this, customers will be able to choose between two versions of the Apple Watch Series 7 with case heights of 41 and 45 mm. The larger model has increased its display diagonal from 1.78 inches to 1.9 inches; giving the display more space for displaying information.
