The Honor Magic Fold 5G smartphone’s official-looking render has surfaced online, ahead of the phone’s imminent launch. After splitting from Huawei, Honor has been on a launch spree. The independent brand has brought quite a few premium devices into the market lately. Now, it seems that the company is trying to up the ante by launching foldable phones. In February of this year, the rumor mill started churning out speculations surrounding an imminent launch of a foldable Honor handset.

Moreover, the company was gearing up for a 2021 launch of its foldable device. In June, Honor reportedly registered the Honor Magic Fold and Honor Magic Flip trademarks in China. Around the same time, some reports suggested that the Honor Magic Fold will adopt an inward folding design. If this speculation proves to be true, the new foldable device from Honor would bear a striking resemblance to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. Although the internet is teeming with these speculations, Honor is still mum on its plan to unveil the foldable device.

The word on the street is that Magic Fold will go official in Q1 2022. In the meantime, renders of the upcoming handset continue to pop up on the internet. Taking to their Twitter account on Friday (December 10), noted insider Teme shared a few Honor Magic Fold 5G renders. The external display seems to extend all the way to the back of the device’s left panel. Just like the last two Galaxy Z Fold variants, the Magic Fold 5G shows into a large tablet display when fully opened.

The trademark filing from Honor, which was originally spotted by DealNTech, suggests that the company is prepping to launch Honor Magic Fold and the Honor Magic Wing phones. After hitting the store shelves, the two smartphones will compete with the likes of Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung, and more. While it remains to be seen whether the Honor foldable phone will these tech giants a run for their money, the Honor Magic Fold 5G smartphone’s key specifications have already been tipped.

If rumors making the rounds online are anything to go by, the Honor Magic Fold 5G smartphone will sport a mammoth 8-inch display when fully unfolded. Furthermore, the screen will reportedly deliver 2200 x 2480 pixels resolution. Under the hood, the device will pack an octa-core CPU. This processor reportedly has one Cortex A-77 core that runs at 3.13GHz clock speed. Aside from that, the octa-core CPU has three Cortex A-77 cores that run at 2.54GHz clock speed. Also, four Cortex A-55 cores run at a clock speed of 2.05GHz.

Furthermore, the device could ship with 8GB of RAM and offer 256GB of onboard storage capacity. The render hints at a 108MP main camera at the back. Upfront, the phone could house a 16MP shooter for capturing selfies and video calling. Moreover, the phone will reportedly run Android 11 OS. However, there is a possibility it could come running Android 12 OS when it launches. A 4,500mAh battery that supports fast charging will be powering up the entire system.
