India based SmartNamo have leaked a specifications table of their Saffron X Linux super phone, a possible Ubuntu Edge alternative!
SmartNamo sent out the above specifications sheet which compares it’s Saffron X Linux dual-boot phone against the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4. Any of you thinking the hardware rings a few bells might want to think back to the Ubuntu Edge phone which was announced some weeks back but failed to receive sufficient investment to get of the ground.
Gizchina News of the week
The spec sheet reads likes a phone enthusiasts Christmas list and includes 4GB RAM, 128GB memory, Sapphire Glass display, LTE support and an easy to pocket 4.5-inch 720p display.
Whether of not we will actually see the Saffron X go in to production and then on sale remains to be seen, but it is an exciting prospect non-the-less.
Thanks to Yash for the tip!

great news! 🙂 love Linux!
Sounds a lot like a knock-off concept of the “failed miserably” Ubuntu Edge crowdsource that didnt even reach half way..
It is the same thing. Here’s the reverse thing though : You just cannot fund 32 mil in a month. It’s just not possible. If they had set the goal for 3 months, it would have been sucessful.
As far as this goes, this appears to be the exact same thing .
Still want 5/6 inch 1080p, and it must have at least a Power VR Series 6 GPU if ARM.
No official announcement yet right?
not official yet, yep 🙂

I don’t know how the need of funding was assessed for Ubuntu Edge. As per available information Ubuntu Edge was not to be sold in open market. Phones are merely assembled by buying different components from the suppliers, for that purpose order could have been placed for required components for assembling their phones and job of assembling could have been assigned to some reputed Company already assembling its own branded phones, I mean in the same manner as Google is doing for its Nexus brand by joining hands with Samsung, LG, etc.
