Samsung held its annual winter Unpacked presentation yesterday, where it unveiled three Galaxy S22 series smartphones. The models received an Exynos 2200 SoC, built on 4-nm process technology and AMD graphics. Before the announcement of the processor, there were optimistic forecasts in the network that in terms of performance it would be no worse than its competitors and could even surpass them.
The level of expectation was high. But as the release approached, alarming messages began to appear on the network that one should not expect much from Exynos 2200. Skepticism was added by the fact that the company even postponed the release of Exynos 2200 to a later date, as well as the fact that at the presentation of the chip it kept silent about its real performance.
The figures obtained by the insider TechAltar may disappoint those who believed that the company would finally learn from its long list of errors in the creation of chips and offer a good chip that will surprise with performance and energy efficiency.
Exynos 2200 loses to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in almost every way

Tests showed that in terms of processor performance, the Exynos 2200 is only 5% better than its predecessor, the Exynos 2100. But objectively, few people expected a significant increase in CPU performance, the most interesting question was how powerful the Xclipse 920 video accelerator came out. It could help Samsung create powerful graphics. But, alas, no. The Xclipse 920 outperforms the ARM Mali-G78 MP14 graphics subsystem found in the Exynos 2100 by 17%.

When Samsung and AMD first confirmed they were collaborating on a GPU for the Exynos chipset, expectations were high. There have even been rumors that the new Exynos 2200 will be more powerful than Apple’s current chipset; which is traditionally the best in the industry. Nevertheless, judging by the first tests, Samsung’s flagship chipset presented today is still inferior to the competing solution from Qualcomm.
Samsung has finally unveiled the Exynos 2200 this year. As expected, it uses the latest Armv9 cores, which are faster and more energy-efficient than previous generation solutions. The chip is made according to the 4nm process technology; and carries the Xclipse 920 GPU on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture. Unfortunately, this did not allow it to surpass the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
