Although ZTE is somewhat a known brand in the US market thanks to low cost dongles and entry-level smartphones, the country hasn’t yet witnessed any of ZTE’s high-end smartphones. However, this is all set to change this month.
The Chinese major will be putting up two of its most well known smartphones – the ZTE Grand S and the Nubia 5 (note that it is not the ‘Z’ from ‘Z5’ seems to be missing) – for sale starting October the 15th in the US market. The phones will start shipping the very next day, i.e., 16th October.
Gizchina News of the week
The Grand S, priced $400, features a 5-inch 1080p display like most other 2013 smartphones. It will come powered by a 1.5GHz quad core processor, the Snapdragon S4 Pro, which will be backed by 2GB of RAM. Imaging will be taken care of by an LED-assisted 13 mega-pixel camera at the rear, and a 2 mega-pixel unit at the front. The device will come with Android 4.1 out of the box, and will feature 16GB of on-board storage along with a microSD slot for further expansion. The device will feature a rather teeny 1,780mAh battery.
Coming to the Nubia 5, the phone will be priced $50 higher than the Grand S, i.e., $450. The device is going to be different from the Nubia Z5 we know according to ZTE. Full specifications of the Nubia 5 include – 5-inch 1080p display, 16GB on-board storage (Nubia Z5 comes with 32GB) and 2GB RAM, the same 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro as the Grand S, and a 2,300mAh battery.
The phones will be available via Amazon and other channels.

Why is no one making extended batteries for any of these china phones? Like Zero lemon, mong, etc etc. Most of these phones have fantastic specs but the only problem or downfall for all of them are the small batteries. If they’re going to put all their money into the processor, screen, RAM, but skimp on the battery then at least make extended batteries and put them on the market as an option for us to purchase! If you google your model phone that you purchased in the US as far as smartphones are concerned when searching for an extended battery 90 percent of the time you will find one made for that phone. If you try to do the same with most smartphones and phablets coming out of China and other Asian countries you will not be so fortunate. now that China is starting to manufacture 4G LTE phones this gives more reason to create aftermarket high-capacity extended battery. Everyone knows that 4G consumes battery power like a bunch of hungry kittens lapping up a bowl of milk.I currently have a galaxy note 2 with a zero lemon 9300 milliamp extended battery and I couldn’t be happier with the results…I am NOT a midget so I do not mind the additional weight or bulky ness that may have been added by using the extended battery… Companies like zero lemon need to start adding China phones to their lineup of extended battery in my opinion, since smartphones and phablets from China will eventually be taking the world by storm, it’s only a matter of time.
They’re banking on people who use Apple products who don’t mind crippled devices. Unfortunately they don’t realize that they don’t have the zealots loyalist or sheep to cater to, they need to earn it first.
not dual SIM 🙁
What gets me is why didn’t zte launch these 2 things at the same time as they did in China 9 months ago at this price in the us. They would have had at 10 percent if not more of the market.
